San Francisco, CA: The Cartoon Art Museum hosts its visiting artist program, Cartoonist IRL (In Real Life) with guest cartoonist Joe Wos at the Cartoon Art Museum at 781 Beach Street on Sunday, August 5th, from 1pm to 4pm in the museum’s beautiful Bil Keane lobby. Joe Wos, most well-known for his comic strip, MazeToons, a combination of maze and comic strip, will share his creative process, draw, chat or answer questions about what it is like to be a cartoonist.

Joe Wos is a cartoonist, illustrator, writer, author, performance artist, graphic facilitator, storyteller, keynote speaker, consultant, pop culture historian, master maze maker, actor, curator, and a whole bunch of other stuff. Over the past 30 years he has found unique ways to combine cartooning skills with other art forms. Wos began his career blending storytelling and live cartoon illustrations nationwide for schools, festivals, libraries and events. Wos also illustrates hand drawn mazes which have been dubbed both the world’s largest and world’s most difficult. His performances also include drawing live on stage with symphonies combining music and live drawing.

Wos has been a visiting resident cartoonist of the Charles M. Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa, California for the past 16 years, where he will be a guest cartoonist on Friday, August 3rd at 11:30am. In addition to his cartooning, Wos was the founder and former executive director of the ToonSeum, Pittsburgh’s museum of comic and cartoon art, and a pop culture historian.

The Cartoon Art Museum regularly hosted professional cartoonists on a monthly basis as part of its Cartoonists IRL program or In Real Life (formerly known as Cartoonist-in-Residence), visitors can observe cartoonists at work and engage with them directly while cartoonists are able to share their passion and process and vend their latest and most well known projects.
