The original idea for this maze was going to be showing different forms of transportation. It sort of evolved from there. Monkeys are one of my favorite things to draw. I imagine them as free spirits that love to play.
I also thought that inverting one of the characters might make the maze a little tougher. The perception of direction is very important in creating a maze. Our inclination is to always keep moving from right to left and so that is what the characters do, but by turning one sideways it adds an element of confusion on some level.
